'conversing with the unseen – a dialog' is a travel journal presented in the form of a Leporello. It is exhibited as a collection of messages throughout the artist's stay in Prague. With its interactive nature, it forms a visual and tactile experience for the viewer. The theme of this work deals with repeating sequences of numbers. These numbers carry secret messages understandable only to one person - the receiver. As soon as the receiver starts noticing that someone or something is trying to convey a message, that's when the dialog begins. I do not use the word monologue as this is a conversation and an interaction active from both sides, even if not spoken out loud.
When I came to Prague, almost instantly I started noticing repeating numbers everywhere I looked. I started writing them down in a notebook and went on to see how I could decode them. That's when I came across the term angel numbers. In numerology, there is a belief in the divine or mystical relationship between a number and one or more coinciding events. When encountering a repeating sequence of numbers, they can be explained as angel numbers. The theory goes that if you are experiencing such events, it is angelic beings talking
to you. As this is specific for the individual, it is up to the receiver to work out what they mean for them. Here is where the term synchronicity comes in. Synchronicity is a concept by psychologist Carl G. Jung. He explains that it is a way to describe circumstances that appear meaningfully related yet lack a causal connection. Which is how these numbers could be explained. When encountering a message, the receiver can analyze the situation it came in and how it correlates to his existence.
In this work, the numbers are visually presented in colors. Each number was assigned a specific color. I use color in this work to oppose the numbers in a way. In math, numbers ask like the letter in the language of the universe. They are the same everywhere and they lead to the same conclusions. The idea of colors works in the same way. There is a universal understanding of what the color red is and what it looks like. We are taught this consensus as soon as we are born. But not all people experience colors the same way. Because colors are only a perception caused by the way light reflects on a certain object. The experience is individual. In the same way, every person is able to receive messages from entities – but not all people are going to be perceptive of them. Andi if they are, the same sequences are going to have different meanings to each receiver. The pairings of numbers and colors came to me in a meditative state. I decided to let them be presented by the same beings that were sending the messages. When I put myself into that state again I started seeing colorful compositions corresponding to each number sequence, as they are presented in this work. I use watercolors as I did when the idea first came to me, to covey the original state I was in. Some sequences are made with see-through colored gels. By using the gels, light is able to go through and create a moving composition within the book. The colors are reflected differently every time the viewer interacts with the book. They create 'windows' into the etheric realms where the senders of the messages reside. They also act like portals representing the channels being used for the senders. There are two journeys being shown in this work which is why I consider it a travel journal. Firstly, the physical one made by my coming to Prague, and secondly, the spiritual journey started with my arrival.
